From Keelung Islet to Nanya

Keelung Islet, Nanya

We had met Honza (an exchange student from NTUT, Taiwan) at 8 o'clock just in the new bus station in Taipei. Andrej went to buy some food and because of that we almost missed the bus. However Andrej managed it and we departed about 8:15 to Keelung, our starting point.

The first place to visit was the Information Center. We had to wait till 9:00 when the center opened, so about 10 minutes. Then we tried to find out some information how to get to the Keelung Islet. Honza can speak Chinese (well quite a lot, but has problems with tones - as he says). They gave us the bus number (103 or 104) and told us the end station is Bisha Harbor.

When we came to the bus station, we saw just one 103 passing around and do not stop. We were confused and several taxi guys used their chance to start to annoy with their services. Of course we didn't take it. We just asked where the right bus stop is and told them bye bye.

When we came to the bus, luckily the second bus arrived, thus we just went in. It took about half an hour to get to the harbor. When we got out, we already see the right place to board to the ferry. We discovered an old ship there and Andrej (as he is always interested in discovering new things) wanted to go inside even so the entrance was locked.

At the end we agreed we will go there later to do not miss the ship. The ship was in fact already on the way, but has to stop in the Bay Watch station. So we were lucky, because they allowed us to board there.

The trip took about 15 minutes, however we paid about 300 NT$ (= 180 CZK; quite a lot, eh?). There were a lot of Taiwanese tourists, but only 5 foreigners including 3 of us. The rest of them were there with the guide.

Immediately after landing we headed to the top of the cliff. Before long we get rid of all the tourists and saw them only from the top like small dots. Only the guide's loudspeaker can be heard around all the island. They even didn't manage to go around the island, so why they went there? It's a mystery for me :)

We climbed up and were totally wet and destroyed. That day's humidity was horrible, not good time for climbing up the cliff. The view there was not beautiful anyway as there was a big cloud around the Keelung hiding it into the mist. However we saw that the water just around the island is so beautifully clean, I never saw something like that before (not even in Philippines).

When we climbed down, the guide already waited for us and cried something into the loudspeaker. Honza tried to tell him we want to stay here longer, because the ship should return back to the harbor just after 1 hour and we didn't even manage to swim! (And especially after climbing we really wanted to do so). No response, the guide just repeated he doesn't understand all the time.

We were forced to board and go back, because in the end they told us they want 2 times more if we want to stay there two hours and it was very expensive already. Andrej wanted to stay there illegally again :) but we convinced him, that it's better to return and see something else rather than solve the problem how to get back later.
In harbor we attended a restaurant and ordered a food. We paid about 1900 NT$ for all the lunch including drinks. It was, however, really delicious. We had shellfish, crab and also some big fish, which was in fact the best of all. There is so big difference when you eat shrimps or fish just caught and killed and the frozen one in the Czech Republic. I will starve at home, because I will never get over the fact the seafood is so expensive and so horrible in there :(

We forgot the abandoned ship we wanted to attend the first time and went to Nanya, limestone formations along the coast. It was a little difficult to catch the right bus, so we stopped each one passing around us and just ask if they are going there. We succeed after half an hour.

The busman didn't stop us in Nanya even so we told him two times we want to stop there. We ended in Bitou, where we already have been with Andrej in the end of March. We had to go back for 20 minutes before we arrived to Nanya again.

We took a walk on the limestone formations and took several pictures. We wanted to swim, but the area was not suitable for swimming, too high cliffs. On the other side of the small bay there was a small beach, so maybe there!

Before we reached the beach, we found even better place. A lot of people (5 - that's a lot as almost no Taiwanese can swim) swam there and there was also some couple taking some pictures in black (WTH ???) wedding dress. We swam there, the water was so warm, really comforting :)

Later on we turned back to Keelung. At first, we thought about going to the Jioufen, however it was more far than we expected and so we let it go. In Keelung we attended the Keelung Night Market (especially this one I will miss so much in the Czech Republic :( ) and returned to the dormitory around 22.
